In November 2006, I got my hands on one of the first wave Nintendo Wiis.  In fact, the Canadian launch day was the day I got one.  I couldn't have done it without TheOneWhoStoodUp who was working at EB Games at the time and was able to secure one.  I have yet to have any problems with it, though I admittedly did not touch it for quite some time.  The first game purchased for it was, embarrassingly enough, Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz which I thought would just be the funnest game ever.

Playing the Wii certainly puts all gamers and non-gamers on a level playing field, I found.  Naturally, gamers had a bit of an edge because they are quicker to adapt to game GUIs and learn the rules of any given game.  They were not, however, at an advantage when it came to the controls of most games.

As with all platforms, my favorite games are RPGs.  Simulations, however, are where the Wii shines, at least in my opinion.  I eventually picked up Cooking Mama after trying it elsewhere and it is definitely a bit of a work-out for your arms when you get into the preparation of foods.

The health benefits from certain games on the Wii cannot be dismissed and are certainly an influence in my own household.  You can go from relaxed gaming like Paper Mario to intense workouts like DDR or Wii Sports.
